    Really appreciate this PSA for the community about these price gougers. I'm learning a lot from your videos, and this one is not different. That said, why did you entirely dump the SMC5? Sure, there are people ripping people off, but you also demonstrated that they are also available at reasonable prices. Seems a bit like cutting your nose off to spite your face, if you really do prefer the SMC5.

    Although not a current fiber user, my studies have informed me that after the main etching burn, it is suggested to finalize the job with a lower power/higher speed "cleaning burn" ~ 3000 mms at medium power - that will burn off the charring that occurs during/after the main etching. The cleaning burn can be one or two passes I.E. 0 and 90 degrees to blow away the crud.... Just an FYI 🙂

    The top ball screw minimizes the leverage of the screw over the Z actuator. If the ball screw was lower the bending moment on the screw would be reduced as in one of your previous builds. Lots of builds put a larger top and bottom piece under the bearing rails to put the screw in between. I saw a design with the bearing rails all the way on top and bottom and that maximizes leverage. I am sure it will be fine as is, you provide excellent leadership for the many CNC builders.

  • @histufly
    @histufly 3 дня назад

    Too bad the end cap did not handle the ball screw bearing. Also, the gantry could have less leverage to the side rail bearings if they were farther apart. Nice clean design overall. Thanks for pushing forward and showing it all.

    Sir, respectfully, I have a technical question. A lot of the lasers light is waisted in an open beam. You can always see the beam, given proper optics. That light is wasted. Unless you focus the beam near infinity, then cram the beam into a fiber wire and take all the normally wasted light to increase the density of the beam. What happens without the seed lasers??? Think of it this way. Your holding a high-powered pointer thur a magnifying glass to its smallest point on to a glass top table. What do you see the laser looks like on the other side of the glass...Super diffused. That doesn't happen in the fiber. No room to diffuse. It harnesses the light that would normally be wasted, and it does that from 16 lasers. Not a capacitor, its a barrel. Could I be right?

    Are you able to thread on the cnc mini lathe? I would think in order to thread, your cnc control board would need to be able to read spindle rpm. And I don’t believe your mach 3 breakout board can.

    Thanks for showing Roger People who have these type of machines with Nylon gears must understand that they have them as a safety for the Novice/beginners meaning if you get jammed up the gears or cogs can break instead of burning out the motor or circuit and so on for the more advanced user then you can buy metal gears and cogs to upgrade Also to say the Nylon parts cost almost the same as metal parts so its not about making cheap for production, but to help the armature be safe

    Thank you Roger for your video. I've worked with HEL's since 1973. I even got to play with ones used in the "Star Wars" projects (ABL). But I never had a chance to do any design of a fiber laser system. Please answer me this. Is the fiber used in the amplifier doped, and if so with what? What are the amplifier's absorption and emission frequencies? The oscillator laser diode operates at what wavelenght? Do you have any energy level diagrams and the timing and energy levels that are involved. Thank you very much for your time and help. Mike J.
